Color basics for Quilters

Enjoy this basic video on how to choose your colors or fabrics for your quilts. The first impression of any quilt is the color. Next is generally the design. Finally the workmanship. Be sure your colors and fabrics work well together! (Sorry about the frog in my throat!)

Exercise: Go to your local fabric store. Pick theme fabric and add other fabrics based on your theme fabric. Take your theme fabric away. Do the fabrics work well together on their own? Practice and practice and you will become more color confident. Your confidence will show in your completed projects!

I have had questions on how I set up my sewing space, so I took a quick video of the space. Enjoy and hopefully you will get an idea or two. Warning – my space is functional not aesthetic!

More quilt projects

My last post looks like it was a while ago, but it just edited it today.  I’m learning how to post things!

I have two other projects currently underway.

- One is a class project from Barbara Olsen.  I have always loved her quilts and promptly signed up when I knew she was coming to my local quilt guild.  She provided the pattern and we provided the fabrics.  It was a fun class where we combined lots of “fun and wild” fabrics together to make a flower.  I am hand appliqueing it (Why – I don’t know!!)  I will post a picture when I get it complete.

- I am also working on new patterns for the website.  My goal is to post a new pattern each month.  Since I like making the quilts more than writing instructions, I do get backlogged occasionally.    I currently have three quilts done and one under construction.  The instructions for the three completed quilts are in various stages.  I will let you know when I get the next one completed.

Welcome to The Committed Quilter Blog.  This blog will be much more functional than the “share and discuss” I had previously set up!  I kept getting spammers adding misc content.  No more spammers!

What is your current quilt project?

I have many in progress right now.  The next one that needs my attention is:

- I’m taking a design principles quilting class from Lorraine Torrance.  This is a 9 month class with homework each class.  I have creating depth in a quilt homework due next Saturday!  I have been having fun with the exercises and am definitely learning concepts that will help me to progress into the art quilts I aspire to make.
